The Urban Canopy Grant Program is a brilliant program to support Local Governments in the Perth and Peel regions to plant trees and increase tree canopy in their communities.

These grants will support pre-existing tree canopy targets or greening objectives already set by local governments

Planting sites have been chosen to target areas of high urban heat including verges, multi-use precincts, car parks, rail reserves, road median strips, and parks and reserves.

The grant allowed for the purchase of 159 advanced trees which were planted across 32 sites (parks and reserves).

The City actually planted 257 trees specifically for Carnaby’s Cockatoo food and roosting, and paid for all planting requirements including consumables, staff and watering (which was around $25K).

The trees were planted within parks located within identified ecological corridors. The parks where tree planting was undertaken through this grant related to the Bateman electorate included:
